Saint-Louis, a university in the heart of Brussels
As a university situated in the very heart of Brussels, the capital of Europe, Saint-Louis draws on all the advantages of a multicultural metropolis. These are beneficial to teaching and research as well as for the students’ cultural and leisure time activities. Saint-Louis is the epitome of an urban university campus with a human touch.
Saint-Louis now has more than 3600 students originating from over fifty countries and spread out over the Institute of European Studies and four Faculties :
Philosophy, letters and human sciences (arts)
Economic, social, political and communication sciences
The Marie Haps Faculty of Translation and Interpreting.
These offer courses spanning most of the humanities and social sciences at undergraduate level (Bachelor’s degree in the new Bologna terminology). They also offer postgraduate programs including masters, advanced masters and PhDs, as well as various in-service training and continuing education programs.
The curricula at Saint-Louis are characterised by their cultural openness and international focus. Evidence thereof are, for instance, its bilingual and trilingual programs (French - Dutch - English) at undergraduate level (a unique opportunity at undergraduate level in Belgium); the program of modern (Germanic) languages and letters; international exchange programs in Europe, North America and Asia at under- graduate level; course content focusing on Europe; subsidised language courses abroad, etc.
Saint-Louis’s reputation of excellence extends beyond teaching: its academic staff and research teams are integrated into several national and international research networks. Numerous regional, federal and international institutions call upon the competence of their research centres, which also often welcome external researchers.
