Learning outcomes :
At the end of this course, students will demonstrate that they are able to
- compose summaries and syntheses by mastering the main aspects of written discourse (spelling, lexicon, syntax, distinction of language registers, organisation of information and of the page, etc.);
- use the tools of syntactic analysis developed in the course to analyse the French sentence in all its diversity;
- define and use idiomatic words and expressions correctly in personal examples;
- correct lexical improprieties or syntactic errors.

Course contents :
This course enables students to develop their mastery of written French (in its lexicological, syntactical and orthographic dimensions) and to exercise their ability to synthesise. The course focuses in particular on syntactic rules and analysis as well as on vocabulary development (idioms, paronyms, language history, regionalisms, borrowings, etc.). These two dimensions will be reinvested in written expression exercises (summaries, syntheses, rewriting of erroneous sentences, etc.)



Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Lectures, writing exercises (summaries, syntheses, rewriting of erroneous sentences, etc.), exercises on vocabulary and syntactic analysis.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Continuous assessment and written examination in the June session.
These tests will assess the skills and material covered: summaries and syntheses, questions on syntactic analysis and vocabulary studied. Evaluation criteria: mastery of grammatical spelling and usage; relevance of the content of the essay and coherence of the essay; use of a sustained lexicon and correct syntax; application and mastery of the facts, notions, techniques and criteria covered in the course; organisation of the information and the page, etc.
A detailed plan of the modalities and deadlines of the continuous assessment will be available on the Moodle distance learning platform.
August-September session: written work replacing continuous assessment and written examination.
