Designed with a resolutely trans-period perspective in mind, this course aims to provide a first foundation for the training of a generalist historian, from the perspective of methodical and reasoned information research. Various second-year courses allow us to consider the question of documentary resources in history in depth.

Course contents :
After explaining the structure of the field of documentary resources in history and their evolution as well as the fundamental principles of the heuristic approach (bibliographic reference system, functioning of a library), the course successively presents specialized encyclopaedias and dictionaries, the different types of bibliographies, syntheses, journals, and provides a first overview of publications from sources. Emphasis is placed on the typology of the instruments, their relevance, and the method. Electronic resources are confronted with paper publications. The field covered extends from Prehistory to Contemporary period.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Lectures, followed by some practical session and individual exercises in the university library.
Assessment methods and criteria :
continious assessment : work and exercices during the year (20%) Final Evaluation : written exams and evaluation during the year (30%) and practical exams (50%)
