Learning outcomes :
On completing this course students should be able to demonstrate, in the final written exam, that they are able to:
- Possess a broad disciplinary range.
- Understand the cultures (national and foreign) specific to each language including in their historic, geopolitical, economic, legal, social and artistic dimensions.
- Detect the underlying socio-cultural components and analyse them.
- Know the subject, vocabulary and techniques of documentary and terminological research. Be able to judge the reliability of sources.

Course contents :

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Study of the geography, history and culture of Turkey (acquisition of general knowledge).
Assessment methods and criteria :
• Continuous assessment based on two practical work reports with presentation (50 % of final result).
• Written and oral exam in Turkish (50 % of final result).
— written exam: summarise/translate in written form, in a text of ± 2 pages, a topic studied in the theoretical part of the course;
— oral exam: produce a continuous presentation on one of the principal periods in Turkish history or culture; present an oral presentation on a particular current affairs topic; be able to defend a point of view on a situation proposed by the course tutor.
This module/course is subdivided into two parts ("culture" part and "translation into Turkish" part) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated as described above (Culture 75% and Traduction 25%). In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It's thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.
