Learning outcomes :
On completing this Course in grammar, students should be able (in the final exam) to:
- Perform a thorough and correct grammatical analysis of a sentence or text with a particular focus on the approach and terminology of ‘prescriptive Turkish grammar'; - Understand and explain the uses of the moods and tenses of verbs, perceive the differences in and the nuances of meaning that the latter repre-sent and spot the mistakes that their incorrect use causes; - Be able to describe and systematically apply the rules of Turkish prescriptive grammar; - Reflect on theoretical grammatical rules and their application.

• Tenses • Mood • Pouvoir / Possibility / Eventuality • Devoir / Falloir / Obligation / Necessity • General introduction to Fossilized Forms - Verbal nouns -me/ -mek / -i? (isim-fiiller = mastarlar) - Relative verbal adjectives and participles (Sıfat-fiiller) - Gerunds (Ba?-fiil / Ulaç) • Complement clauses (Yan cümleler)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The theory of grammar is presented in a straightforward and progressive way. Theory is highlighted through examples and is followed by practical exercises. A contrastive ap-proach to grammar is taken as a methodological platform for translating, oral speech and written expression.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Written exam (100% of the final mark).
