Learning outcomes :
• This course is two-fold: one part to improve the abilities to speak and another one about controlling lexicology. Logically the assessment is also two-fold: oral and written assessment.
For the oral part,
• on completing this Course the student takes an oral assessment, which concludes the Course's continuous assessment. The student should, during this interview, be able to demonstrate the following abilities:
• Talk about what they have read and about the week's news.

• Be able to deal with the oral communication situations of everyday life -“situational problems”- that they can expect to encounter during their ERASMUS study visit.

• Maintain a simple general conversation with Spanish speakers.

• Describe images and films, describe personal stories and actions, ideas or opinions.

• Express a point of view, an opinion, disagreement, in such a way as to be understood by their interlocuter.

• Contribute actively to conversations with several participants on general news topics requiring an ethical stance.
For the lexicology part:
• On completing this part of the course, the student should be able to demonstrate in a written assessment
• that they control the terminology used in the different sections of spanish generalized newspaper (economy, geopolitics, society, petty crimes, natural disasters, culture)
• that they can identify the exact equivalent of terms in their mothertongue on the basis of a full understanding of words in their context.
• that they can complete the missing words in a text on the basis of the full understanding of the context
• that they can find a word from its definition
• that they can translate sentences from french into spanish and vice-versa

Course contents :
For the oral part:
Roundtables o discussion groups on the news introduced by students in order to develop their oral skills as well as their cultural and grammatical knowledge.
The student prepares a topic by reading the press and listening frequently to the spanish news.
Study of the link words in speech, subjunctive mode, idioms, and the ways to express feelings.
Variety of progressive exercises to speak in front of the group for the student to improve his/her skills in expressing, behaving and occupying the public space.
For the lexicological part:
Systematic and in context approach of the spanish press vocabulary (all sections) and of word combinations related to the different topics treated.


Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
For the oral part:
Progressive methodology that aims to stimulate the student's passive receptive and mimetic faculties in order to enable them to communicate.
Exercises provided in the course syllabus (practical exercises, simulation, etc.).
Group work: exchange of information - debate - role play
Individual / pair work presentations.
Critical analysis of articles, videos, etc.

For the written part:
a variety of exercises (definitions, texts to be completed, work in groups)
reading portfolio on the elearning platform
transcription of podcasts related to the studied topics
translation of sentences using the studied terminology in both ways (fr-es/es-fr)
mindmapping the terminology to master the study of semantic fields



Assessment methods and criteria :
For the oral part:

This course is subdivided into two parts (oral practice and lexicology) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated as described. In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It is thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.
