Learning outcomes :
- To present in detail the geopolitical and institutional evolution of the territories now constituting the kingdom of Belgium, from Roman times to the present day, by initiating the students in particular to the legal and mental foundations of the current federal Belgium.
- To highlight the persistence and/or mutations of certain concepts (“dominations”, “personal union”, “federalism”...).

Course contents :
The course alternates between general overviews of periods of time and presentations of more specific and relatively detailed issues (the origins of the linguistic border, the balance of power in the principalities of the Middle Ages, the “modernity” of the “Austrian” 18th century, the main political families in independent Belgium, the "community issue"…).


Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Lecture completed by comments on cartographic documents.

Oral examination

The bibliography is very detailed, with large extension tailored according to the use it may have in the writing of the master's dissertation.
