GERF2120 - Dissertation in Financial Risk Management

Learning outcomes :
The student has to show he is able to write a paper based on the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme, which can take the form of e.g. a literature survey, a case study, an empirical research.

Course contents :
The dissertation is a written paper of around 30 pages (excluding appendixes) analysing an aspect of financial risk management. The student will be able to choose the subject of the paper in the domaine of financial risk management.

Assessment methods and criteria :
1) Before Monday 1st 2019, every student needs to send in a file Anouk Claes (anouk.claes@usaintlouis.be) where the title of the project, together with the research question needs to be formulated.

2) We recommend students to at least have 2 meetings with the lecturere. Please contact her by mail to set up a meeting.

3) The deadline for handing in the dissertation will be June 11th 2019 (for the second session: August 21st 2019). Make sure you hand in a paper version to the secretary and email an electronic copy (pdf file) to (anouk.claes@usaintlouis.be) and espo-hd@saintlouis.be .

The evaluation will be based on the written manuscript, that should not be longer than 30 pages (excluding appendices). The student needs to descibe the context, the problem and a proposed solution. She/he will need to motivate the choices made, his evaluation, and clearly formulate a conclusion and add (if neccesary) appendices.
The oral defens of the thesis consists of a presentation of the work, followed by questions and answers. The final mark for the dissertation will take the quality of the work into account, the manuscript (60%) and the oral defens (40%).
