Learning outcomes :
This seminar aims at preparing the students for the thorough study of an issue relating to the field of Antiquity. It will also prepare them to correctly write an assignment of about twenty pages. This exercise will help them not only to master the major approaches of the subject matter, but it will also enable them to present correctly any scientific work in Philosophy and Literature. The goal is to enable them to tackle their master's thesis without any difficulties.

Prerequisites :
Co-requisites :
Course contents :
The seminar initiates the students to a historical approach through a specific question they will study throughout the year. The topic of this study will be proposed by the professor according to the theme of the seminar, which is devoted to the Greek and Roman world alternately. The personal work of the student - research at the libraries, constitution of a reading and documentation file - will be supervised during the weekly hour long sessions, a specific method being proposed for each of these approaches. The students are then invited to present the results of their research in a written work. This approach will be explained progressively, regarding both the contents and the form. Before the work is handed in, the students will be invited to present orally a summary of the results of their research.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The seminar starts with a presentation by the professor of the theme of the seminar; the aim is to define the general framework within which to place the students' works. From then on, the seminar will be a sort of permanent dialogue between the professor and the students. The students must then take charge of their subject and be ready at each session to present the progress achieved in their research.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Conditions of the summative (which provides the final mark) and formative (which enables students to assess their level and improve themselves) assessments: the written work is corrected in detail (form and content) and these corrections are commented during an individual meeting with each student. The students may have the corrected work at their disposal during one week and may ask any question in order to learn from the comments and remarks.

Recommended or required reading :
Provided during the seminar.
