Saint-Louis University - Bruxelles

Axe 2 - Constitution-making and European Citizenship

This second axis includes 3 research themes:

First, the theme of the constitutionalization of the European Union linked to the debates on the half-federal, half-confederal legal nature of the European Union and the developments affecting the notion of sovereignty. This theme lends itself to an interdisciplinary approach combining law, political science, history, and political philosophy, as evidenced by the scientific meetings that have already taken place in Saint-Louis and in the framework of the thematic doctoral school in European studies with, in particular, Olivier BEAUD, Jean-Marc FERRY, and Christian FRANCK, as well as the scientific productions of Hugues DUMONT.

Second, the theme of European citizenship, human rights and the values privileged by the EU. This theme is notably at the heart of the scientific productions and research of Antoine BAILLEUX, Giacomo DELLEDONNE, Nicolas DE SADELEER, François VAN DER MENSBRUGGHE and Sébastien VAN DROOGHENBROECK. In particular, the interactions between free movement and fundamental rights are the focus of Antoine BAILLEUX's research. The theme of European citizenship is developed in the research of Ludivine DAMAY, Florence DELMOTTE, Denis DUEZ, Hugues DUMONT, Heidi MERCENIER, Marie DUFRASNE and Claire LAFON.

Third, the study of decision-making processes (inter-institutional contention, scope of internal and external competences, choice of legal bases, comitology, European agencies, budgetary rules, etc.) is of particular interest of Nicolas DE SADELEER.
