The course aims to introduce students to (or further their understanding of) authors in social and political sciences who impact the analysis and study of power today.

Students will discover and delve into theories of power, its mechanisms, its institutions, its weaknesses and the ways different social scientists went about qualifying that power. They will have to read and understand several classic texts and will have to show their ability to get into a conversation as a scholar-to-be.

Lectures and discussion in class.
Compulsory reading of articles.

Open-book oral exam.
