HIST1110 - Introduction to economics

Learning outcomes :
At the end of the course the students should master the fundamental concepts and logic of economic analysis providing them with a reading grid of the economic reality and developing their critical mind regarding economic policy decisions. They should also be able to read and comment on articles of the economic press.

Course contents :
This course deals with microeconomic and macroeconomic matters. In the first part we develop issues relating to the allocation of resources and the functioning of markets. In the second part we address issues of overall functioning of the economy both in the long and short term and of the role of the state by means of economic policy.


Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The structure of the course follows that of the reference work. During the lecture, theoretical models will be developed and their use will be illustrated through examples out of the economic news. During the exercise sessions, the students will have to apply the theory through the solving of economic problems as well as the analysis of newspaper articles dealing with current economic issues.
