Learning outcomes :
At the end of the course, students will have acquired the necessary competences and methodology to analyse a poetic text; moreover, they will have to master certain basic concepts in poetry (versification, metric, stylistic devices, etc.)

Course contents :
Following a theoretical introduction on the essential notions in poetry and on the methods of analysing texts, the course embarks on a historical journey through the history of poetry by selecting some of the principal poems which will be introduced and analysed in detail.


Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course is taught by the professor. Nevertheless, the students are invited to take an active part in the course through their participation (essential!) during the analysis of the poems; moreover, students will be asked to carry out several written analytical exercises during the term (at home), which will serve as preparatory exercises for the final examination.


Assessment methods and criteria :
Written examination, including a theoretical part and a practical part.
