On completing the Unit ‘Mastering Italian', students should be able to demonstrate their ability to: Express themselves in Italian, using correct phonetics and grammar as well as lexical accuracy and diversity, on themes studied in class ; Discuss the socio-cultural content of the course; Define, in the straightforward, clear and precise terms possible, the terms used in the headlines in the Italian press. (level B2 of the European Reference Framework for Languages)

Course contents :
Both individually and in small groups students express themselves in front of the class on different societal or news topics. Most presentations will follow-up the viewing of a video or a reading. In addition, each student is expected to present a video in class, organise and lead a class debate and present vocabulary from a field of their choice.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
A range of vocabulary building exercises; student presentations; role play; ‘for and against' debating; peer to peer learning.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Continuous summative assessment ; individual oral exams at the end of each Module. Module 1 counts for 30% of the final mark and Module 2, 70%. Further details are available on the distance learning platform.
This module/course is subdivided into two parts (part “Lexicology” and part “Oral Expression”) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated as described above/below. In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It's thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.
Remote online exam if stricter social distancing measures are required due to Covid-19.
