MHCH1361 - Chinese : culture and communication

Learning outcomes :
1. For "Language and society": to acquire the necessary knowledge on the evolution and the different aspects of the contemporary Chinese society.

2. For "Translation to C" : acquire a competence in translation from French to Chinese.

Course contents :
1. For "Language and society" : the course will focus on the presentation and analysis of China's contemporary society and on its evolution from 1949 to the present day, about the politico-economic and socio- cultural aspects.

2. For "Translation to C": practice of French-Chinese translation of texts on different topics.


Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Presentation, analysis and discussion, accompanied by video documentaries, and student work.


Assessment methods and criteria :
1. "Language and society": oral exam at the end of the semester.
2. "Translation to C" : written examination at the end of the semester.

This module/course is subdivided into two parts (part “Language and Society” (75%) and part “Translation into C” (25%)) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated as described above/below. In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It's thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.
