Learning outcomes :
The aim of the course is to provide students with a formal understanding of the main concepts of corporate finance and financial institutions. The principal concern of this course is to examine the roles and the importance of financial intermediaries. It focuses primarily on the variety of funding sources and the use of those funds in order to articulate and understand strategic issues in financial intermediation. In addition, students should master the basic concepts of corporate finance in order to assess the value of firms or investment projects.

Course contents :
This course is divided in two parts. The first part focuses on corporate finance and is devoted to the following points:
7- Introduction to corporate finance 8- Definition of Cash flows 9- Firm valuation through ratios 10- Capital structure and firm valuation 11- WACC and adjusted present value of investment projects 12- Real Options The second part is devoted to financial intermediaries and deals with the following topics; 6- Intoduction 7- Why do financial institutions exist? 8- The stucture of financial intermediation 9- Introduction to financial regulation 10- Governance of financial institutions Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course objectives are achieved via weekly theoretical lectures accompanied with topical example.
Assessment methods and criteria :
80%: written examination 3h. The aim of this exam is to test student's knowledge regarding firm valuation and financial institutions and their ability to analyze complex phenomena.
20%: Firm valuation or comments of a scientific article related to the key concepts introduced during the lectures. Recommended or required reading :
