Course contents :
This course unit trains students in the different steps involved in project to design and optimise the introduction of interactive and collaborative communication tools in an organisation. Its starting point is the academic acquis of the course unit in Strategy of Interactive and Collaborative Communication - as the goal is to deliver a communication plan.
The course unit in ‘Methodology in transmedia and cross-media communication' is the scholarly venue in which the first year Master's project is set, organised, supervised and assessed.
Students may specialise in the sector of activity of their choice. In addition, students may specialise in relation to the following two orientations, which may be cumulative:
• The choice between internal and external communication (advertising, organising events, media relations, patronage/sponsoring);
• The choice between the business sector and the not-for-profit sector in its broad sense (culture, health, education, public relations or political communication, social activism or citizen-based actions).
Students will work in sub-groups in line with their choices.
In this course unit students will:
• Gain hands-on and in-depth experience of interface ergonomics (text, visuals, sound and tactility) and will work on different text, video, sound formats on a range of platforms, including mobiles, taking into account the different types of interface and adapting writing to the uses of those platforms;
• Become familiar with the techniques of storytelling and produce different forms of multimedia and transmedia writing, including for serious games, in line with the potential of social media and the expectations of target users;
• Perform different interactive and collaborative communication activities (generate traffic, moderation, curation etc.) with respect to different types of online campaigns or events. This course unit uses a project-based learning approach: tutor's brief & guidance, design, implement and evaluate. It creates the conditions is which students can gain practical experience and prepare for their second year Master's integrated work placement and/or dissertation project.
For the Master 1 project, instructions are designed so that all students gain an experience of (1) storytelling, writing both text and audiovisual and transmedia in line with the formats and usages of the principal platforms, and (2) different interactive and collaborative communication activities such as generating traffic, moderation and curation.
