Learning outcomes :
At the end of the course, the students should be able to identify and estimate the different important literary movements, which since the emergence of national literatures until the 20th century have shaken Europe.

Course contents :
The course presents a putting into perspective of ten centuries European literature. It is made of two parts: the first part studies classical heritage to Baroque; the second part studies the Age of Enlightenment to modernity. Critical reflection should be developed through the reading and analyzing of a great number of major works of this heritage.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The lecture implies that the students read a certain number of books in order to develop a personal and critical approach of the subject matter.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Summative assessment: oral examination at the end of the year.
