Axe 3 - Borders and Migrations

Originally considered as simple remedies for the creation of an area of freedom, security and justice, the issues of migration, asylum and border management are now political priorities for the European Union. They are at the forefront of European politics and the media. These areas of action are also among the most dynamic at Community level.

This third research theme focuses on the growing importance of migration and border issues. It brings together research on mobility and, more particularly, focuses on the links between mobility and security.

This research theme is developed, among others, by Rocco BELLANOVA, Alise DAUCHY, Denis DUEZ and Damien SIMONNEAU.

Starting from the observation that the area of freedom, security and justice questions the most essential functions of the Member States of the Union, these researchers consider that the challenges of migration and borders are a rich field of research for who understands the recomposition of the European political order. They therefore examine different aspects of the establishment of the European area of freedom, security and justice: practices and logic of border controls, creation of a European area for the information transfer, cooperation against terrorism, outsourcing of controls, etc.
