EUSL2023 - Substantive law of the European Union

Learning outcomes :
Through the study of the free movement regimes, of the rules on competition and on services of general interest in the internal market, the student will get the understanding of mechanisms governing substantive Community law.

Course contents :
The course covers:

- The various freedoms of movement, namely the movement of people, goods, services and capital. For each of these freedoms, the analysis presents systematically the definition of the field of the community rule as well as the icensing scheme of trade barriers. This analysis is completed by a presentation of the axes of the harmonization policy of national legislations in the internal market;
- The competition law, with an overview showing the axes of this system (control of the agreements, abuse of dominant position and state aids). This analysis is limited to a presentation of concepts;
- The issue of services of general economic interest.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course aims to combine a general overview with a practice based on the casuistry of Community law.
