2016 - 2017 Programme
I. To acquire practical skills and expertise in a broad range of academic fields including in an interdisciplinary perspective.
At the end of the Programme students will have acquired:
• General and inter-disciplinary expertise by reaching out to other disciplines and exploring the connections between them.
The programme will develop students’:
All the general and optional courses in social sciences. Ex : Critique des sources d’information (Bloc 1); Histoire de l'art et archéologie du Moyen Age à nos jours (Bloc 2); Philosophie de l’art et de la littérature (Bloc 3)
• Expertise in the principal non-francophone authors and literary movements as well as in the theoretical tools of literary analysis.
Students will be introduced to:
Littératures comparées I et II (Bloc 1 et 2); Littérature et écriture dans les différents médias (Bloc 3)
Théorie de la littérature (Bloc 2)
• Expertise in disciplines that are complementary to Germanic languages and literatures.
In addition:
All optional courses. Some of the options offered include: Information et communication, Sociologie, Droit, Sciences politiques, choix d’une langue romane ou d’une 3e langue germanique, etc.
II. To develop specialised practical language and linguistic skills
At the end of the Programme students will have acquired:
• Excellent communication skills in two Germanic languages
The programme’s goals are to:
All linguistics courses including practical exercise sessions in Bloc 1, 2 and 3 for both Germanic languages:
Compréhension et étude de textes écrits/oraux; Expression orale; Lexicologie; Culturele Stage; Traduction vers la langue étrangère
• Specialist expertise in the literatures and cultures of two Germanic languages.
In particular, students will:
All the thematic courses introducing students to the literature and culture of the two Germanic languages chosen: Ex : Analyse et explication de textes littéraires (Bloc 1, 2); Littérature III (Bloc 3); Introduction to the Culture of the English Speaking World (Bloc 3); Néerlandais : Structures politiques, sociales et culturelles (Bloc 3); Civilisation des pays de langue allemande (Bloc 3)
All history of literature courses. Ex : Histoire de la littérature (Bloc 1 et 2)
All the introductory thematic literature courses in the two Germanic languages chosen:
ex : Analyse et explication de textes littéraires (Bloc 1, 2); Littérature III (Bloc 3) : Het naoorlogse schrijversdagboek (néerlandais) ; American drama (anglais); Heinrich Heine: Leben, Werk und Wirkung (allemand);
Culturele stage (Bloc 3); Néerlandais : Structures politiques, sociales et culturelles (Bloc 3); Introduction to the Culture of the English Speaking World (Bloc 3); Civilisation des pays de langue allemande (Bloc 3)
All the thematic literature courses in the two Germanic languages chosen. Ex : Analyse et explication de textes littéraires (Bloc 1 et 2) ; Littérature III (Bloc 3)
• Specialised linguistics skills in two Germanic languages
Students will acquire:
All the introductory thematic literature courses in the two Germanic languages chosen: Ex : Linguistique III (anglais ou allemand) (Bloc 3) : Introduction à la sémantique et à la pragmatique (Bloc 3); Sprachplanung und Sprachpolitik in deutschsprachigen Raum (Bloc 3)
• A practical grounding in research in literature or linguistics. Students will acquire a command of the tools and methods of work in the discipline chosen.
Students will learn to:
Critique des sources d'information; Méthodologie du travail scientifique; Travail de fin d'études
III. To acquire a grounding in the scientific method (‘transferable skills’)
At the end of the Programme students will have acquired:
• A grounding in the methods of critical thinking and scientific reasoning
Students will learn to:

• A grounding in the analysis of complex reasoning and the skills needed to produce their own appropriately expressed reasoned arguments.
