The Governing Council

 

The Governing Council (Conseil d’Administration, CA) is the decision-making body with the widest powers for the management and administration of the university. It is responsible for all affairs that are not expressly reserved by law, or by the General Assembly of the ASBL. It operates on the basis of guidelines and objectives set down by the latter.

 

In addition to the Vice-Chancellor, who presides it, the Governing Council is composed of the Deputy-Chancellor, the Faculty Deans, the President of the Institute for European Studies, the President and a second representative from each staff committee (academic, teaching support, reasearch and administration), and four student representatives*.

 

Its responsibilities include: recruitment, the attribution of academic responsibilities; promotions; the renewal of mandates; the budget framework, approving the budget; and annual accounts, which it submits to the General Assembly.

 

The Governing Council meets at least five times a year.

 

*Membership of the Governing Council is based on the provisions set out in the decree of 21 September 2012 on student participation and representation in higher education.
