Our Quality Charter

The Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles y is a friendly place to study where quality, rather than quantity, has always been the watchword. In pursuit of its goal of excellence for all its programmes and courses, Saint-Louis has adopted a continuous quality improvement process centred on its values and its objectives in relation to each of its three missions: teaching, research, and services to society.

This improvement process is based on seven guiding principles that the University considers are essential to the quality of teaching:

With regard to students:

developing their critical and analytical thinking skills;

ensuring the acquisition of specific disciplinary and transferable academic knowledge & skills;

With regard to teaching:

ensuring that academic support is accessible;

continuously adapting its programmes and courses so that they take account of societal expectations while preserving academic rigour;

placing special emphasis on language learning via its multilingual programmes;

maintaining good international academic links to give students the opportunity to pursue part of their undergraduate studies at a foreign university;

teaching ‘with a human face’ with, from the start of programmes, personalised mentoring, small-group seminars and accessible teaching staff.

In addition, the University’s ethos for quality is ensured through the essential connection between teaching and research, which ensures that the knowledge imparted to students has solid scholarly foundations. The University therefore:

Provides researchers and teaching staff with appropriate equipment, resources and working environment, enabling them to pursue scientific inquiry with the rigour that is needed;

Promotes ground-breaking and interdisciplinary research projects;

Supports national and international research cooperation;

Encourages staff mobility.

Lastly, in relation to its third mission, the University seeks to:

Participate in the cultural and social life of, first and foremost, the Brussels-Capital Region and the French Community of Wallonia-Brussels, by organising conferences, holding meetings and debates and ensuring the development, conservation and transmission of cultural, artistic and scientific heritage;

Stimulate debate in society by offering an environment in which critical thinking and debate about solutions for contempory challenges can flourish;

Offer and develop lifelong learning, vocational and executive training programmes.
