Admission requirements and registration procedures for doctorates

The Regulation for doctoral education of the Université Saint-Louis sets out the framework conditions for doctoral programmes leading to the award of the academic title of Doctor of Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles.

There are 3 steps to applying for a place on a doctoral programme. These steps must be completed in strict order. Briefly, they are as follows:

Step 1: Check that you satisfy the formal admissibility criteria

Formal admissibility criteria for doctoral-level studies are laid down in articles 55, 56 and 182 of the Decree of 31 March 2004.

Step 2: Find a supervisor

All prospective doctoral students need to identify a supervisor. Without a supervisor it is not possible to be admitted and to enrol as a doctoral student. In practical terms, you will need to directly contact possible supervisors yourself, and ask them if they are willing to supervise your research.

Your supervisor must be a member of Saint-Louis who is qualified to supervise a doctoral thesis in your field.

Step 3: Submit your application

We recommend that you study the requirements set out in the Regulation for doctoral education of the Université Saint-Louis carefully. Your supervisor will help you to prepare your application. You must submit your application to doctorat@usaintlouis.be who will transmit it to the relevant subject-specific Doctoral Committee (CDD).

Step 4: Registration

If the CDD approves your application you can then enrol via the Registration Office.
