Wednesday from 15:30 to 17:30 at 43 Botanique 6

Language of instruction :
French.

Learning outcomes :
Its more specific aims are:
- to present the IS and their modelling by referring directly to software engineering and management sciences;
- to familiarise the students with aspects of IS and database language;
- to introduce the analysis and modelling of information systems;
- to introduce the business information systems including e-business systems.

Prerequisites :
For the Bachelor : Business Engineering :

For the Bachelor in Economics and Management :

Co-requisites :
None

Course contents :
This course aims to examine, study, criticize and use business information systems (IS) including databases and ERP type software.
The course covers the stages of analysis and design of information systems throught the use of the conceptual modelling language UML. Although this language was developed for conceptual modelling of object-oriented software, the course will limit itself to implementing conceptual models as data models for managing databases.

The following list is provisional and subject to adjustment during the semester. The order will not necessarily be the one indicated.
1. Organisational Information Systems
2. Conceptual Modelling
a. Class diagrams
b. Use Case diagrams
c. Activity diagrams
d. UML implementation
e. Design Patterns and Methods
3. Database management
a. Introduction to databases
b. Conceptual modelling (see class diagrams)
c. Logical model and conceptual - logical translation
d. SQL

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Lecture and tutorials.

Assessment methods and criteria :
The assessment consists in a mandatory part (i.e. the examination) and an optional part. The optional part allows to reduce the size of the exam (25% decrease).

The exam is a closed book examination that lasts 3 hours. An “cheat-sheat” provided by the instructors at the exam. This “cheat-sheat” will also be available on eSaintLouis.

An optional exercise will be proposed to students and enables them to eliminate 25% of the written examination. This exercise will be carried out by groups of students. The voluntary work is the analysis and design of an information system followed by the implementation of this information system with a database.
