Language of instruction :
The course is taught in German. During the 1st term, a few German literary works are translated into French for the benefit of beginner-level students.
Learning outcomes :
The objective of the reading exercises is to reach an intermediate level of reading comprehension ; the course aims to develop elementary skills in critical reading and in the analysis of dramatic and poetic literary works in German.
Upon conclusion of the course, the student will be able to fully understand and analyze a short narrative work (Kurzgeschichte, Novelle, Märchen) in German.

Course contents :
The reading and comprehension of important authors (e.g. Kleist, Kafka, Th. Mann, Borchert, Böll etc) and the analysis of 19th, 20th (even 21st) century German literary narrative and dramatic works and poetry by taking into account the respective aesthetic trends.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The exercises will be conducted on the basis of written, sound and audio-visual documents in German language. Active student participation is required.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Oral examination about the contents of the reading exercises.
