2013 - 2014 Programme

Key learning outcomes

 

Upon completion of the Bachelor in Political Sciences, students will have acquired the following skills:

 

  • A certain degree of general culture in human and social sciences, based on the knowledge of the main premises and approaches of the various disciplines, as well as their methods and related ethical issues;
  • a more in-depth culture in the field of political science and its various branches: international relations, European studies, (national) institutions and political regimes, study of political parties and lobby groups, analysis of public policy, of political ideas…

and more broadly, a wealth of transferable skills:

  • the ability to produce, individually or as part of a team, an analysis of contemporary political issues, which implies:

- the ability to successfully collect information based on the most appropriate information-gathering methods (statistics, etc.);

- the ability to process the information obtained based on existing research on the subject and according to the most appropriate analytical methods;

- the ability to communicate the results of the analysis in a clear, coherent, structured and attractive manner, both orally and in written form;

fluency in English and Dutch, both orally and in writing, and in particular, the ability to engage in a general conversation and communicate about the objects and analyses in the field of social sciences.

 

In addition, for students enrolled in multilingual programmes:

  • the ability to follow a course, study it and present its ensuing oral or written assessment in the target language (Dutch and / or English)
  • and, more broadly, a knowledge of the cultural world, the specific characteristics and ways of thinking associated with the target language (Dutch and / or English)

For students enrolled in a Dutch oriented multilingual programme:

  • the ability to conduct research in the field of social sciences, and to write a substantial work of academic scope in Dutch (see: Seminarie media en politieke, sociale actualiteiten).
