Learning outcomes :
- To understand the significance of the European Union as an actor in international affairs.
- To understand the external action of the EU in multiple policy areas (foreign and security policy, trade policy, development policy, external environmental policy).
- To analyse the various dimensions (institutional, legal, policy outcomes) of the EU's external relations.

Course contents :
- Conceptualisation of the EU in international affairs.
- Historical development of the EU's external action.
- Institutions and decision-making processes in the field of the EU's external action.
- Competition and cooperation between the EU's and the member states' external action.
- EU's external action in different policy areas:
a. foreign and security policy
b. trade policy
c. development policy (including humanitarian aid)
d. external environmental policy.

Ex cathedra presentations.
