Programme Objectives

The European dimension is taking on an increasing role in the economic activities, in the social environment, in the legal development and in the political issues of the member states and the European citizens.

Linked to the Master’s programmes in Political and Social Sciences, the Master’s in European Studies offers a programme of study that provides the knowledge and analytical tools needed to comprehend and evaluate the European integration process and which prepares students for the professions related to the European dimension in the fields of public administration - European, national and regional - of the representation of special interest groups, of consultancy and of the think tanks configured around the European institutions or in the wide range of economic and social activities for which expertise in European matters is required.

The programme trains students in a number of fields, including economics, law and history relative to European integration and, at the same time, it gives them the skills needed to analyse the internal and external political aspects of European integration. By placing special emphasis on budget resources and the European decision-making process, the professional focus "European policies: scope and means" focuses on the primary internal policies of the EU whereas the professional focus "Europe in the World" addresses Europe’s role as a world player in international relations in this current era of globalisation. The professional focus "Europe: states and societies" pays particular attention to issues relating to identity, culture and education, to exchanging ideas and the institutional issues of legitimacy and effectiveness.

The workshop "Europe as it is thought" brings an interdisciplinary dimension to the programme.

A certain number of the courses are taught in English.

In addition to the knowledge and use of French and English it presupposes, the programme also included the learning of another European language (German, Spanish, Italian, Russian) in view of European multilingualism.
