ROMA1296 - Explanation of Modern and Contemporary French Authors I

Learning outcomes :
At the end of the course, students should be capable of grasping and analysing the multiple facets of a specific category of literary texts. Students are also incited to become aware of various critical insights to which a given text can be subjected.

Course contents :
After an introduction to the masters of Parnassus (Gautier, Leconte de Lisle, Banville), the Hugo in exile and great poetic breaks of the second half of the nineteenth century (Baudelaire, Mallarmé, Lautréamont, Corbiere), the course will examine the poetic work of Arthur Rimbaud.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Review articles alternate with sessions centred on the precise analysis of a passage. Active student participation is requested.
