Key learning outcomes

Upon completion of the Bachelor in Sociology and Anthropology, students will have acquired the following skills:

  • a general culture in human and social sciences, and more specifically, knowledge of the major currents of thought that shape these disciplines, as well as the history and culture of our societies, and a general knowledge of social phenomena of our times;
  • ethical, personal and social skills;
  • language skills: fluency in English and Dutch, both orally and in writing, in particular, the ability to engage in a general conversation and communicate about the objects and analyses in the field of social sciences;
  • theoretical as well as methodological, intellectual and practical skills in sociology and anthropology.

and more broadly, a wealth of transferable skills:

  • an ability to analyse the world in which we live, while helping to solve the problems or reduce the tensions that arise in evolving societies, marked by complexity and diversity;
  • a sense of originality and innovation by exploring new areas and by focusing on original objects;
  • an ability to detect changes, sometimes invisible, which have effects on different levels, with repercussions both in the public and private registers.

In addition, for students enrolled in multilingual programmes:

  • the ability to follow a course, study it and present its ensuing oral or written assessment in the target language (Dutch and / or English)
  • and, more broadly, a knowledge of the cultural world, the specific characteristics and ways of thinking associated with the target language (Dutch and / or English)

For students enrolled in a Dutch oriented multilingual programme:

  • the ability to conduct research in the field of social sciences, and to write a substantial work of academic scope in Dutch (see: Seminarie media en politieke, sociale actualiteiten).
