FILO1214 - Philosophy exercises II

[A. • 30 Th. • 6 ECTS - credits]

Lecturer : Bardet Anne
Language of instruction : French.
Learning outcomes : This course aims to introduce the students through targeted issues, to the thought of important authors in the history of philosophy. The first term will aim to learn about Rousseau's philosophy, the second will approach the thought of Dilthey.
The essay writing exercise will be directly in anticipation of what will be required of students
Prerequisites : First year in Philosophy
Course contents : The exercises course is a lecture on an author that relies on specific text extracts. The sessions will therefore alternate between lectures and commentaries of texts.
Students are also invited to carry out themselves the brief recap that is held at the beginning of each session in order to familiarise themselves with the oral exercises required of them during examinations.
Mode of delivery : Besides the lectures, the professor will be available on duty hours to enable the students to discuss any difficulties encountered during the course.
Assessment methods and criteria : Essays on a notion of doctrine, an aspect of the studied author's philosophy, on one (or more) concept (s) that he develops, or even around a quotation from a work by the author will be required of the students. These essays (two per term) will receive a mark that will take into consideration the clarity of the presentation, its logical articulation, the fidelity of the student to the studied texts, the issue that emerges from the texts and the originality of the presentation.
Recommended or required reading : The bibliography will be provided during sessions.
Other information : The course outline will be provided at the first session. Texts will then be handed out throughout the year.
