Learning outcomes :
To develop the students' understanding of the theories used to explain the European integration process, by introducing and evaluating the main schools of thought in European integration theory.
Prerequisites and co-requisites / Recommended optional programme components :
Basic knowledge in political science, law and history.
Course contents :
- Introduction to theorizing the European integration process. - Classical integration theories : federalism, (neo-)functionalism, liberal intergovernmentalism. - Current perspectives on European integration : governance, multi-level governance, policy networks, new-institutionalism, social constructivism, Europeanization, political economy.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Ex cathedra presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Written or oral examination.
