University arrangements for students and researchers who have fled Ukraine

1. In order to help people who have fled Ukraine and arrived in our country, we propose the following for students who were enrolled in a University in Ukraine in our fields of specialization only

a) these students can register as independent students (‘élève libre’ in French) for a maximum of 20 credits for the courses given in 2022-2023

b) these students must have been students during the academic year 2021-2022 in Ukraine, regardless of their nationality

c) these courses taken as independent students will be free of charge (they will not be billed by the university)

d) students who take these courses, take the exams and pass them will be able to receive credit for these courses if they then enroll as ordinary students in our university next year (we will give out credits but we cannot prejudge the way in which other Belgian or foreign universities might value these courses taken as an independent student)

2. The procedure for these students is as follows:

a) students contact the International Relations Office in English or French at the address international@usaintlouis.be with a copy to bertrand.hamaide@usaintlouis.be mentioning their wish to follow courses as an independent student. They will have to give the following academic information: field of study, study advancement (freshman, sophomore, …), proposed course selection. The list of courses is available in English on this page.

b) students who wish to do so can request to take a French Foreign Language course (French for Foreigners for Ukrainian students) that we could create just for them if such a demand exists.

c) the International Relations Office guides them in their choices and directs them to the registration department (Service d’Inscription) and the faculty administration of the faculty that will accommodate them as independent students.

3. In order to help researchers who have fled Ukraine and arrived in our country, researchers who are in our fields of specialization only can also contact us in English or French at international@usaintlouis.be with a copy to bertrand.hamaide@usaintlouis.be if they are trying to find shared office space to continue their research. The International Relations Office will study this possibility with the Research Administration.
