Learning outcomes :
The course provides students with an overview of the rules aiming at the protection of consumers in Europe. These rules are examined as part of EC law as well as, wherever necessary, the national rules with the same purpose. Students are invited to determine the limits which must be set on the capacity of undertakings to behave as they want. May markets be liberalised, deregulated, globalized without any limit ? Should regulation be introduced to structure these phenomena, among others, to protect consumers ? A focus is placed on the acquisition on practical competences : the ability to analyse concrete situations with in view a better protection for consumers.

Course contents :
Consumer law covers various fields of law, which it examines from the perspective of consumers. A choice is made of various themes to examine every year : - safety of consumers - food safety - commercial practices.
