Learning outcomes :
This course aims to teach the students a basic knowledge about the functioning of the economy and the behaviour of the producers and consumers. It aims to get the students familiar with economic reasoning and methods. And, based on newspaper articles, it aims to generate some interest for economic news.

Course contents :
After a description of economic principles and problems, the course will focus on micro-economic subjects: the market mechanism of supply and demand; the elasticity of demand and supply; the government intervention in the market; the study of consumption decisions; the description of the production process through production and cost functions; the producers' behaviour in competitive markets and in monopolies.
