DRHO2131 - Rights to Asylum and of Refugees

Learning outcomes : The course focuses on the rights to asylum and of refugees. It aims to provide precise theoretical knowledge of the notion of the refugee as well as an understanding of migrations of asylum seekers within the general context of migrations.
Prerequisites : None
Course contents : The first part is taught by Professor Jean-Yves Carlier of the UCL.
This part of the course focuses on the detailed analysis of the right to asylum and the legal notion of the “refugee” based on numerous examples of case law.

The second part is taught by Professor François Crépeau of McGill University in Canada.
This second part provides a perspective of the management of migrations in general and of the North American approach in particular.
Mode of delivery : Lectures with case studies.
Assessment methods and criteria : Oral examination for Professor Carlier's part of the course, written examination for Professor Crépeau's part of the course.
