Mode d'enseignement :
Deuxième quadrimestre, 52 heures de théorie.

Langues d'enseignement :
Anglais

Objectifs d'apprentissage :
Business Project aims at applying the knowledge acquired during the pre-trajectory in a business environment.

To achieve this goal, a supporting track (business background, research skills, language skills and personal skills) consisting of different lectures is offered. Through this track, the students develop the capabilities to deliver an analysis supported by the stakeholders and a proposed solution in a business environment. The final goal is that the students are capable of combining their economical background with the insights of the engineering courses. They have the unique opportunity to address issues from an entrepreneur's point of view.

During this course, the following teaching objectives are addressed:
- Student is capable to understand the exchange between product/personnel/customer/market and the operational processes and to apply this exchange in a business environment.
- Student learns to analyze a problem setting and to translate it to a (business) specific research question.
- Student learns to write in a correct and business/research language register.
- Student acquires the required personal skills to be able to learn to optimally function in a team/business environment.
- Student is capable of qualitatively executing a project in the correct format in a business environment and in a project team as well as critically defending it, hereby supported by the insights from the business background lectures, the acquired research skills, the specific language skills and the personal skills.

Contenu de l'activité :
Business Project consists of two main parts. At the start of the academic year, a supporting track (business background, research skills, language skills and personal skills) is offered consisting of different lectures which provide the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in carrying out the company project. After 4 weeks, the company project part starts by the company presenting an operational challenge that the group must analyze and solve.

The estimated distribution of the effort in hours spent by the students is as follows:
-CH = classical teaching hours
-SH = supervision hours during which the students must be present (coaching, feedback sessions, ad hoc meetings for following up of occurred issues,…)
-HH = hours spent at home on an assignment and/or working together with the project group and/or being present in the company

Supporting track:
-Business background (1,5 SP): 6 CH, 6 SH, 24 HH
-Research skills (1,5 SP): 6 CH, 6 SH, 24 HH
-Language skills (1 SP): 8 CH, 4 SH, 12 SH
-Personal skills (1 SP): 6 CH, 4 SH, 12 HH.

Project part:
-Project (presentation included) (7 SP): 8 CH, 32 SH, 180 HH and in addition
*Kick-off session project: 2 CH
*Exam: 4 HH.

Activités d'apprentissages prévues et méthodes d'enseignement :
Cours magistral

Méthodes d'évaluation :
Type : Partial or continuous assessment with (final) exam during the examination period
Description of evaluation : Oral, Paper/Project, Presentation, Self assessment/Peer assessment, Process evaluation
Type of questions : Open questions
Learning material : Course material, Reference work

Evaluation characteristics
The evaluation consists of two parts. First, there is the supporting track consisting of sessions on business background, research skills, language skills and personal skills. These four parts of this track are being evaluated by their own assignments. Secondly, there is the business project, running in parallel of the supporting track, which is evaluated by a paper, a presentation and a final exam during the exam period.

Determination final result
Supporting track:
-Business background: team paper; score counts for 7,5% of total; assessed by lecturer of this subtrack; team score
-Research skills: team paper; score counts for 10% of total; assessed by lecturer of this subtrack; team score
-Language skills: individual paper; score counts for 5% of total; assessed by lecturer of this subtrack; individual score
-Personal skills: individual paper; score counts for 7,5% of total; assessed by lecturer of this subtrack; individual score.

Project:
-Paper: team paper; score counts for 40% of total; process evaluation is also part of this score; half of the score is given by the lecturer who supervises this project part and half by the project company; team score
-Language skills: assessment of language in team paper of the project part; score counts for 5%; assessed by the language lecturer; team score
-Presentation: team presentation; score counts for 15%; assessed by lecturer who supervises this project part; team score
-Examination: oral open book exam during the examination period; assessment of the extent to which the insights from "Content: insights into the interaction between product/customer/market and the operational process.” are being demonstrated in the output of the project; this examination is not focused on knowledge but on acquired insights; score counts for 10% of total, assessed by lecturer of project part; individual score.

The result is calculated and communicated as a whole number on a scale of 20. In order to validate this course, students must pass each individual module. There is a zero tolerance for this course.
If the student does not participate in one of the partial evaluations, the final grade of the course will be NA (not attended) for the whole course.

If a student repeatedly does not comply with the requirements set out in the agreement with the project company, or seriously violates them, for this particular student the project shall be discontinued and the student shall receive a 0-grade. The student shall have no right to an alternative assignment or a second exam opportunity.

The features of the evaluation and/or the determination of grades differ between the first and second examination opportunity. In case the student does not pass (scoring less than 10 on a total of 20) in the first examination opportunity, the second examination opportunity consists only of an individual test (group elements are no longer taken into account).

Result determination

For the supporting track each of the subtracks is being evaluated:
-Business background: if passed, the score remains; if not passed, the student must deliver a new assignment (individual paper); score counts for 7,5% of total; assessed by the lecturer of this subtrack; individual score
-Research skills: if passed, the score remains; if not passed, the student must deliver a new assignment (individual paper); score counts for 10% of total; assessed by the lecturer of this subtrack; individual score
-Language skills: if passed, the score remains; if not passed, the student must deliver a new assignment (individual paper) which is counting for 10% of total (scores of the supporting track and the project are added up here in the second examination opportunity); assessed by the lecturer of this subtrack; individual score
-Personal skills: if passed, the score remains; if not passed, the student must deliver a new assignment; score counts for 7,5% of total; assessed by the lecturer of this subtrack; individual score.

In the second examination opportunity, there is no presentation for the project part. This increases the importance of the paper and the exam:

-Paper: if passed, the score remains; if not passed, the student must deliver a new assignment based upon the group project in the first examination opportunity, this new assignment will focus on less elaborated aspects of the group project and a list of improvements and must result in an individual paper to be handed in the week before the exam; score counts for 50% of total; assessed by the lecturer of the project part; individual score

-Exam: is the same as the exam in first examination opportunity; score counts for 15% of total; assessed by the lecturer of the project part; individual score.
