Learning outcomes :
On completing the Unit ‘Mastering Italian', students will acquire advanced language skills in Italian to express themselves coherently, fluently and appropriately in relation to a variety of social, cultural and political subjects, whilst using an appropriate and varied vocabulary. This module aims to get students' language proficiency up to level B2 of the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Language).

Course contents :
Both individually and in small groups, students will express themselves in front of the class on different societal, cultural and news topics. Student presentations will be based on research on reliable written or video content. In addition, each student is expected to present a video in class, coach a class debate and submit and explain relevant vocabulary related to the content of their presentation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
A range of vocabulary building exercises; student presentations; role play; ‘for and against' debating; peer to peer learning.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Attendance is compulsory: 2 unjustified absences are allowed per term. Each new absence must be justified by a medical certificate or a substantiated written justification.
Continuous assessment ; individual oral exams at the end of each Module. Module 1 counts for 30% of the final mark and Module 2, 70%.

In the August session, students will be tested on three topics that have been covered in class during the year, with particular reference to the part of the course (first and/or second term) that has to be retaken, details of which (content and development) can be found on the Teams and Moodle pages of the course.

This module/course is subdivided into two parts (part “Lexicology” taught by Ms Fontana and part “Oral Expression” by Mr Ferrari and will be evaluated by means of two separate exams. The overall mark is an average calculated as described aboveIn the event of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It's thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.

In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, we will strictly follow the changes imposed by USL-B.
