Learning outcomes :
The main objective of this seminar is for students to acquire an ability to ‘theorise' the legal phenomenon.
At the end of this course, students should
- have understood the specificity and interest of legal theory, as regards both the nature of its questioning and the originality of its methods
- master the main theses and concepts developed on analysed issues
- have developed an aptitude to critique towards law as it is established and practiced

Prerequisites :
Co-requisites :
None

Course contents :
The course consists of a reflection on contemporary law or, more precisely, of a questioning on legal grounds and practice.
Based on the students' knowledge in positive law and humanities, the course aims at developing their aptitude to critique and their knowledge of (schools of) legal theory. At this crossroads, it endorses and promotes the interdisciplinarity that characterizes the bachelor program in law.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course is given ex cathedra, in a large auditorium, unless health regulations require distance learning: in this case, the course will be given "live”, on Teams.
Documents are available on moodle, but students are expected to take their own notes during class. At several points during the semester, legal practitioners will be invited to echo our theoretical concepts and enter into debate with the students.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Written exam.
Assessment criteria includes knowledge of the course's content, and scientific rigour in the legal and critical reasoning.
