Learning outcomes :
On completing this course students should be able to demonstrate their:
- Command of and ability to apply the basic rules of modern Turkish grammar (vowel and consonant harmony, the order of suffixes etc.);
- Ability to apply and explain why they have used a particular rule of grammar;
- Understanding of the uses of the different tenses; reflect on theoretical grammatical rules and their application;
- Understanding of the principal standard spelling rules;
- Ability to identify their own mistakes and self-correct.

Course contents :
• Phonetics
• The suffix system
• Vowel and consonant harmony
• The verbless clause: the verbs to be and to have
• Possessives
• Possessive phrases
• The verb phrase: conjugation in the present pro-gressive, general present, past & future
• Case suffixes
• Spelling

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Theory is highlighted through examples and is followed by practical exercises. A contrastive approach to grammar is taken as a methodological platform for translating, oral speech and written expression.
In view of the health context linked to the spread of the coronavirus, these teaching methods may be adapted in different situations; these possible new methods will be communicated by the teachers to the students via Moodle.

Assessment methods and criteria :
An intermediate written assessment comprising a range of question types at the end of Module 1 (30% of final result); an exam at the end of Module 2 (70% final result).
In view of the health context linked to the spread of the coronavirus, the methods of evaluation may be adapted in different situations; these possible new methods will be communicated by the teachers to the students via Moodle.
