Course contents :
The course involves the study of journalistic articles and current affairs topics in the Dutch language and lexical development exercises; it focuses on upper intermediate level vocabulary.
The grammar already studied in the theoretical course is exploited as a learning device and extended to include the acquisition of vocabulary in context: real examples of false friends, compound words, collocations, connectives are studied in a structured way in context (in the text) with a view to their long-term acquisition by the student.
Students are invited to express themselves in presentations, debates, role play and in open & casual conversations in class.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Exercises (practical work and ‘learning by sharing', debates, role play, etc.);
Student presentations.

Assessment methods and criteria :
First term: continuous assessment/oral Dutch 50%, written Dutch 50%
Second term: continuous assessment/oral Dutch 50%, written Dutch 50%

This module/course is subdivided into two parts (oral Dutch and written Dutch) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated as described above/below. In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It's thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.
