Learning outcomes :
On completing this Unit, students should be able to:
- Express themselves at the B2 level of the European Reference Framework for Languages (or equivalent);
- Maintain a simple conversation in LSFB with a native signer ensuring phonetic and grammatical correctness as well as lexical variety and precision on a variety of topics as discussed in class during the year;
- Participate in a conversation with several native signers on general news topics;
- Reformulate and paraphrase a text making active use of the new vocabulary and synonyms learnt during the course.
-Without a dictionary, understand a text in LSFB addressing certain specific topics;
- Extract the key and secondary information from such a text and render it in the target language;
- Answer general and specific questions on these texts.

Students will also update their cultural and language skills in the source and target languages following the theories learned in class.

They will also have developed their ability to understand, memorize and reformulate information from an authentic complex source text (oral or written) thanks to their critical and analytical mind.

Course contents :
During the Oral Expression sessions students express themselves regularly, in front of the class, or in small groups on diverse societal themes or news topics (for example: Belgian and international news, information & communication technologies, the labour market, the deaf community, sign language, deaf culture, etc.).
A part of this course will focus on the acquisition of new vocabulary related to topics seen in class

Assessment methods and criteria :
Mid-year evaluation in January (30%):
- Written assessment : a comprehension test using a video text in LSFB 
- Oral assessment: expression in LSFB

Final assessment (70%)
- Written assessment : text comprehension
- Oral assessment: oral expression in LSFB
Continuous assessment takes place during the year (participation in class, homework), with the related marks contributing to the marks in January and June.
This course is subdivided into two parts (oral practice and lexicology) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated as described.
In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It is thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course

An unjustified absence of more than three sessions or an unjustified defect in the timely delivery of written work may lead to an objection to registration for the examination concerned.
