MHLS1211 - Sign Language: Grammar in Practice I

Learning outcomes :
At the end of the Grammar In Practice course students should be able to demonstrate their ability to:
- Recognise the basic grammatical mechanisms of LSFB in any type of text/discourse;
- Use these mechanisms in oral discourse.

Course contents :
Each class focuses on a specific grammar topic. Following a presentation of theoretical aspects, students participate in practical exercises.
In addition to further study of the grammar topics covered in the first year, the course covers:
- The structure of compound sentences ;
- The comparative;
- The superlative;
Grammatical themes may not necessarily be covered in the order shown above.

Exercises (practical and laboratory work, guided study, simulation, etc.);
Lecture;
Personal progress monitoring;
Distance Learning.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Mid-course assessment in January: video-based assessment and either questions on theory or open questionsFinal assessment : video-based assessment and either questions on theory or open questions
Continuous assessment takes place during the year (participation in class, homework), with the related marks contributing to the marks in January and June.

Attendance is compulsory and unjustified absence for more than 1/3 of the classes or non-submission of required homework or presentation without any justification will mean no registration to the final exam. The student keeps the possibility to present his exam in August.
An unjustified absence of more than three sessions or an unjustified defect in the timely delivery of written work may lead to an objection to registration for the examination concerned.
