MHIT1341 - Italian : culture and communication

Learning outcomes :
On completing the ulture and Comunication Unit students should be able to: demonstrate a large high education and to extend it; demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Italian culture, in particular in its historical, geographical, political, economic, social and artistic aspects; demonstrate critical thinking and rigor in the assessment of sources; present a clear and structured presentation by speaking correctly; translate formal and business letters into Italian in line with the linguistic and stylistic norms applying to these text genres and using appropriate vocabulary and phraseology;

Course contents :
Introduction to Italian literature (from the Middle Ages to the 19th century); translation exercises into Italian.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Cycle of lectures about Italian literature (+ readings of texts) ; presentations by the students (videos or films on various aspects of the Italian reality); translation exercises in class.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Written exam at the end of the Module (the part “Language and Society” represents 75% of the final mark and Traduction into C 25%); continuous assessment (25% of the final mark of “language and Society”). NB: in case of distance exam, continuous assessment also for Traduction into C.
This module/course is subdivided into two parts (part “Language and Society” and part “Translation into C”) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated as described above/below. In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It's thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.
