Learning outcomes :
On completing the Course Unit, students (bloc 2) should be able to:
Apply the theory taught during the course

• Use correct grammatical structures in context (use of tense, switching between the indicative and subjunctive), as well as be able to spell and conjugate correctly
• Compare the different options available in a given context exploring different meanings or registers
• -Use the grammar learnt in bloc 1 and bloc 2 during the transfer (translation) into language C taking care to avoid calque errors.
• Manage their linguistic skills and keep them up-to-date
• Justify (their use of specific) grammatical structures in context and translate them.
• Check the meaning of words through judicious use of monolingual and bilingual dictionaries.
• Reach B2 level in Spanish

Course contents :
The course includes both theory and practical work
Normative approach.
The course focuses on complex sentences, on tense sequencing and the use (i.e. an in-depth constrastive analysis) of the subjunctive and of prepositions. Practical exercises of ‘grammatical translation' (FR-SP) grouped by morphosyntaxic and lexical fields.
The target language level for writing is B2.
In addition, the Unit aims to equip the student with the tools they need to analyse the grammar of a contemporary Spanish text with a view to translating it and retaining its nuances.
Practical translation exercises from A>C designed to give students practise in applying the grammatical skills and expertise in language C, the goal being to bring students up to the B2 level;

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
• Theoretical component is presented in lectures and applied through numerous exercises both in and away-from-the-class.
• Group correction - including discussion about translation solutions used in translation work undertaken before the class.
• Comparative translation in an intercultural and cooperative environment (Erasmus students).
• Students are required to prepare for and actively participate in classes.
• Occasional research tasks in relation to paratextual and other information outside the text.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Summative written exam focusing on knowledge and abilities.

This module/course is subdivided into two parts (Grammar in Practice and Translation A-C ) and has two separate exams. The global mark is an average calculated with a weight of 50% / 50%.
In case of a fail grade, you're invited to visit the MOODLE page of the course and check the details. A 10/20 or higher mark will automatically be transferred to the second or third exam session. It's thus not possible to re-sit the exam related to this part of the course.
