Learning outcomes :
This course (with text readings and students' personal research) aims to introduce a foreign audience to some of the most important topics of the day.
facets of the French-speaking culture of Belgium. The aim is that students who have acquired through their studies a great familiarity with French culture can better understand the particularities of a community that is both close to and different from its French neighbour.

Course contents :
History of Belgium and French in Belgium,
linguistic particularities of Belgian French, major works of literary, pictorial, architectural, cinematographic or audiovisual heritage in French-speaking Belgium, stereotypes and cultural representations.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Lectures, debates, observation and analysis of
documents, research and personal presentations by students.

Assessment methods and criteria :
The evaluation consists of two tasks:
- the presentation, (during the semester) in groups of three or four students, of a presentation of about twenty minutes on a survey that the students will have conducted by consulting written or audiovisual sources and French-speaking Belgian witnesses. The possible themes will be proposed by the teacher, in dialogue with the students. Students will also send the teacher a file presenting their sources and a detailed plan of their presentation;
- the oral answer (during the session) to two questions on the subject presented by the teacher. The list of possible questions will be provided during the last course of the semester.
The distribution of points between these two parts is 50% for the presentation and 50% for the question-answer session.
