INGE1312 - Operational research

Credits : 5

Lecturer :

Mode of delivery :
Face-to-face , second term, 30 hours of theory.

Language of instruction :
French

Learning outcomes :
The course aims at training the students to the formulation and use of normative mathematical models in management situations.

Prerequisites :
For the Bachelor : Business Engineering :

For the Bachelor in Economics and Management :

Co-requisites :
None

Course contents :
The course covers a range of normative models of different types giving rise to various processing techniques:
• Modelling
• Linear programmes and extensions
• Integer programmes
• Notion of complexity of algorithms
• Optimisation problems modelled by graphs
• Dynamic programmes

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Lectures and tutorials.

Slides with the possibility to download a PDF version from eSaintLouis. Many links on the internet. Optional work to be carried out alone or in groups of two. Some of the work is to be conducted on a computer, either on one of those available at the University, or on a personal computer using a browser or by using free software, of which the installation will be explained in class.

Assessment methods and criteria :
There is only a summative assessment. It is an open book examination that will include comprehension questions on the methodological part, development questions in non-encrypted form of elements of theory, questions of implementation of the theory in an encrypted context as well as modelling questions such as the problems proposed during the tutorials.
The works requested during the semester can be taken into account for the final evaluation. The number of questions to be answered in the assessment will depend on the submission of proposed works.
