Learning outcomes :
This seminar takes place at the end of the (theoretical and practical) methodological formation of the bachelor in History. It gives students the opportunity to develop their own personnal critical reflection on the academic and societal issues of writing history.

Course contents :
Each year the seminar will deal with one or more questions relating to the theoretical and practical issues of the practice of history and its relevance for the community. The focus lies on the non academic forms of writing history (such as history in musea and temporary exhibitions, in literary fiction and in movies, in the press and the media, in political and commemorative discourse, and so on), with a particuliar attention to public history, inclusive history and history-and-memory.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Seminar : alternance of lectures by the teachers, of debate sessions, of personal study and research, of lectures by visiting specialists, and of observations on the field.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Writing of a final essay, according to the guidelines exposed and commentated during the seminar sessions.

Recommended or required reading :
A bibliography is included in the course material and is also available on the Moodle platform.

Various documents, guidelines and bibliography are available on the Moodle platform. The seminar generally comprises one or more observation sessions on the field (such as the visit and critical assessment of a temporary exhibition).
Attendance to the seminar sessions is mandatory.
