Learning outcomes :
At the end of the course, students will have taken on board a range of insights into the fundamental theme of language and its breadth; they will also be capable of reading and contextualizing a philosophical text dealing with the theme.

Course contents :
The course begins by reviewing the major questions in the field of the philosophy of language (historical perspective). It goes on to examine the relationship between language and literature: it looks at fiction, the position of the verbal act and untruths, paradoxes of sense, the status of signs, etc. G. Deleuze's, ‘Logique du sens' (the logic of sense) will be used as a reference and studied.



Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Ex cathedra presentations.

Students are requested to read selected chapters from ‘Logique du sens' in preparation for classes (one chapter is prepared and presented orally in small groups).


Assessment methods and criteria :
Oral examination, with possible a personal question prepared by the student.
